Ok, I have to be honest. Growing up in the 80s, like reverb. There, now that I have That I had in my heart I will say something in this matter which I would describe as Phantom reverb.
Everything was great in the back in the '80s: big drums, solo reverb guitar great hair, huge, and then … enormous. I suppose that the mixture had to make room for big hair band. But, alas, gone are the verb days of expansive, cavernous room well most natural one, focusing more on first thoughts of long decline. Today tend to make the listener feel as if the group is in your face. However, some technical engineers as well as some of us more experienced, may, without fall into the trap of adding reverb too, simply because I did not hear yet.
Although the mixing engineers resist start "Word in the mixing phase, the dreaded specter of reverb head up during the mastering process. engineers in the use of compression and limitation to increase the perceived volume of a recording. If you think about the dynamics of a song like a mountain range, limit and reduce Compression "(or at least push down") of the peaks (high points), so you are near, or even and valleys (lulls). So when everything is pushed up as high as you can go. In essence, this process makes the quiet moments significantly stronger song, and with it the reverb. In the mixing process, the reverb is very subtle sitting in the mix, where he was psycho-acoustic "felt" more than actually heard. While now the mastering process, the reverb is swollen to where it is much more sensitive level of consciousness. Although this is not always a big problem, sometimes it can hurt a mixture another good thing in making your date.
The key to keeping the reverb Phantom is the failure, which was forced to mix and less reverb you think you need, knowing that this will be stronger once the track is mastered. Another trick I use is to increase the output volume of my reverb unit, turn back the effects on the console, or increase the volume on the bus that I use for my DAW reverb in some somewhere between 3-5dB. Then, when it comes mixing time of printing, I'll pull it down. But do not forget to throw down!
